Preparation for the LASIK surgery

If you decide to go ahead with LASIK surgery, you will need an initial or baseline evaluation by your eye doctor to determine if you are a good candidate. Stop wearing contact lenses before examination and surgery, Soft contact lenses: off for at least 7 days; hard or gas permeable lenses: off for at least 3 weeks.

How long is the surgerical procedure? And when will the vision be restored?

Some patients choose to do the detailed eye examination in the morning. When the doctor confirms that the patient is suitable for surgery, then he/ she could do the surgery in the afternoon. The entire surgical procedure takes about 15-20 minutes. You might feel slight discomfort during the surgery but it would not last long. After the surgery, the patient needs to stay in the clinic until their condition is steady. The patient's vision will be vague after the surgery, but it will become clearer a few hours later. Most patients could come for the follow-up consultation in the next day by their own. It is believed that their daily routines will not be affected after the surgery.

Precautions After the LASIK surgery

A transparent eye shields will be taped on your face in order to protect the cornea flaps, do not remove them. These eye shields should be used for the first week at night during sleeping. Do not steam bath or swim during the first month. Not to rub your eye at anytime and do not wear any eye makeup one week after the surgery. It is not suggested to drive or do strenuous contact sports before the vision gets clear.

Do we need to wear glasses or contact lens after LASIK surgery?

Even though we are able to estimate the surgery effectiveness, the actual result still depends on the degree variety among the patients. Ideally, patients do not need to wear glasses after the surgery. However, the curvature of the cornea will change after the surgery so patients might not wear contact lenses again. If your vision is still blurry after the surgery, please consult your ophthalmologist whether you need to wear glasses or not.
